The Shockoe Poets have been evicted from the Shockoe Espresso Coffee Shop in the slip!!!! We're homeless!
It's true. After ten years, the longest running open mike needs a new home ASAP!! Started back in the 90's at Ashland Coffee and Tea, Cheryl Ball and I moved it to Richmond where Kelley Lane took over as cohost at the Shockoe Espresso location.
We'll be there (unofficially) on the second Sunday in August from 2-4 to discuss and regroup if you have any ideas.
Apparently, the parent company Mill Mountain ( anything to do with the theater?) had some sort of problem somewhere and somebody screwed it up for the rest of us and the order is out for NO MORE ENTERTAINMENT at their establishments.
The truth is, we were almost always the only people there on Sundays- I tip at least 100%, and we talked up the place constantly. Oh well.
And we just had a piece on Mash Up July 29th- figures.
Cafe Gutenberg offered, but they have a brunch on Sundays and needed us to change times (later in the day). We'd really like to try to stay in the 2nd and 4th Sundays, 2-4pm if we can.
If anybody has any ideas, please let me know shannp at gmail dot com.
